Trauma Healing

Specializing in trauma work with youth and adults, I act as a guide to help people on their journey to healing.

Trauma occurs when the nervous system has experienced an event or cumulation of events that overwhelms the nervous system and an individual`s ability to cope.  Trauma may result from a wide variety of stressors such as motor vehicle accidents, falls, invasive medical procedures, illness, surviving sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, not having had our needs met, loss, major life transitions, and chronic stress.

Common symptoms of traumatic stress include anxiety or panic attacks, depression, flashbacks, difficulties sleeping or relaxing, anger outbursts, hyperactivity, hypervigilance, racing thoughts, muscular tension, low energy, exhaustion, feeling disconnected, addictions, and physical syndromes or chronic pain.

Individual Counselling

I provide a place of non-judgement for you to feel heard, respected, and valued. A place where all of you is welcome. I believe that establishing a safe therapeutic relationship is at the heart of the counselling process.

I specialize in supporting people who experience:

  • Low mood, depression, suicidal ideation
  • Worry, anxiety, panic
  • Trauma, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Early Developmental Trauma
  • Anger, shame, low self-esteem
  • Stress, overwhelm, and feeling stuck
  • Life transitions, relationship difficulties, setting boundaries, work-life balance, and more.

Therapeutic Approaches

My work is informed by advanced training in Somatic Experiencing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and Narrative Therapy. I incorporate client-centered and mindfulness principles in my approach, as I draw upon a wide range of evidence based approaches and interventions that have been tailored to fit your individual, unique needs, wants, and goals.

Research has shown that a body-oriented approach is among the best practices for working with trauma. Somatic Experiencing promotes nervous system regulation, and increases a sense of safety.  Trauma which has been stored in the body is released while working with our natural fight, flight, and freeze survival processes.
